Kareem, who has been residing in Indonesia for the past year, shared that this was his first experience celebrating Eid al-Adha in Bali. He noted the inclusive atmosphere of the prayer gathering compared to his home country.
“Here we can worship freely, both alone and with the community. In my country it is difficult, because our religion is not too accepted. But in Indonesia, especially here,it is indeed very easy to be Muslim. It is very different from in Europe,” Kareem stated.
Saba and Safi, two men from Paris who had just arrived in Bali a day prior, also joined the thousands of worshippers at Tibubeneng field. “Tomorrow we will also sacrifice with residents,” they added, expressing their intention to further participate in the local traditions.
