VIENNA – A new report shines a light on the multifaceted nature of the Danube Island, a cherished green space in the heart of Vienna. The ORF program “Concerns: We – Reports without Filter,” airing on Saturday, September 6, 2025, on ORF 2 and again on Wednesday, September 10th, on ORF 1, delves into the diverse communities that share this urban oasis and the tensions that arise from their coexistence.

For many Viennese, the Danube Island is a readily accessible “small paradise,” especially for those without the means for a country home or seaside vacation. During the summer, thousands converge on this recreational area daily.People from all walks of life – “immigrants or long -established, young or old, sporty or sociable” – gather on the island. However,this confluence of people inevitably leads to conflicts,with “questions about space,garbage and noise” creating friction.

The report follows Adriana Juric as she explores the island’s various communities, each with its own unique lifestyle and needs. The Danube Island is in constant flux. “While grill rounds have become increasingly popular as the 2000s, gastronomy complains about less customers.” The report also notes that “the nudist community also shrinks increasingly.”
