Czech Philharmonic Leporelo Review: New Year’s Performance

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

The Philharmonic was led by conductor Robert Kružík, oboist Barbora Trnčíková, hornist Kateřina Javůrková and trumpeter Walter Hofbauer presented themselves as soloists. The evening was accompanied by Marek Eben.

The varied program was opened by an impressive Festive Prelude. Dmitri Shostakovich‘s work is filled with captivating energy and musical imagination. Ravel’s Alborada del gracioso, evoking the sunrise against a danced background, overflowed with temperament and colors.

In Dukas’ carefree and lyrically sung Vilanelle with technically demanding sections, Kateřina Javůrková’s horn shined. Debussy’s Moonlight was accompanied by a dreamy misty atmosphere. The music for the film The Mission is a masterful example of Morricone’s musicality, brought to perfection by Barbora Trnčíková.

Márquez’s Danzón captivated the audience with its sensuality and danceability. Walter Hofbauer’s trumpet shone beautifully in Böhme’s Neapolitan Tarantella, a lively and brilliantly composed scherzo.

At the end of the festive evening, the Czech Philharmonic under the legible and inspiring gesture of Robert Kružík performed in the best light both in Mascagni’s Intermezzo from the opera The Peasant Cavalier and in the prelude to Bernstein’s Candide. Enthusiastic applause was earned by the Philharmonic with their brilliant precision, passionate energy and evident joy in playing, with which they gifted the festive New Year’s audience.
