Congressman Wadith Manzur surrenders to the Prosecutor’s Office for the UNGRD scandal

This Thursday, the newly elected senator of the Conservative Party, Wadith Manzur, surrendered to the Prosecutor’s Office after the Supreme Court of Justice issued an arrest warrant against him. Manzur, who was elected as a senator this Sunday, and who in the last legislature was a representative of the Chamber, is one of those accused in the scandal of the National Risk Management Unit (UNGRD).

In this network of corruption, the authorities have managed to demonstrate that Gustavo Petro’s Government bought congressmen, or benefited them by directing contracts, with public money that was intended for disaster relief, in exchange for them voting favorably on the reforms and credit requests.

Manzur was part of the Congressional Public Credit Commission, in charge of approving or denying state debt, along with Karen Manrique, whose arrest warrant was also ordered by the Court. Manrique, who occupies one of the seats designated for victims of the conflict, was also elected this Sunday for a new legislature. For that same case, the Court has called Julián Peinado, Liliana Bitar and Juan Pablo Gallo, all three from the Liberal Party, and former congressman from the Alianza Verde party Juan Diego Muñoz to trial. However, no security measure was ordered for them in a prison, so they will be able to defend themselves in freedom.
