Chernobyl Power Failure: Russian Attack Impact

According to Kiev government, the protective cover around the destroyed reactor block of the Chernobyl nuclear power plant in Ukraine has failed due to a Russian air strain. Experts were working on restoring care, the Ukrainian Energy Ministry said on Telegram.

According to this, the Russian attack hit a substation in the city of Slawutych, which is almost 50 kilometers from the Tschernobyl nuclear power plant (Ukr.: Tschornobyl). The electricity also failed in the small town, in which the operating teams of the work used to live.

The international nuclear energy authorities IAEA said in Vienna for the three disused reactors of the work were switched to another power line. The so -called sarcophagus around the fourth block exploded in 1986 is supplied with two generators.

In Chernobyl, the most difficult misfortune occurred in the history of nuclear power. The remains of the fourth reactor block have been covered with a 100 -meter -high protective cover since 2019. Electricity is necessary to operate this system, including ventilation. In February 2025, a Russian drone damaged the double -walled sarcophagus.
