It was therefore in the summer of 2027 that the work of the house should be completed that the new Grand Duke Guillaume had, on a plot of 3,600 m², in the park of the Château de Berg, which extends over 22 hectares. In the distance, residents of Colmar-Berg have been observing workers at work since last spring.
Because if the castle, whose origins date back to the beginning of the 15th century, has been since the end of its restoration in 1964, the residence of the sovereign in office, Guillaume announced in July 2024 his decision to give up living with his family, in the majestic building made available by the State.
Moves, “envisaged by 2026”
“We want our children to grow up in an intimate family environment,” he said. The building will be “entirely supported by the own means of the future grand-ducal couple”, specifies the Maison du Grand Duke. “We are convinced that this is the best possible way to combine our institutional obligations with our family life,” said Prince Guillaume, whose family is, to date, settled at the Château de Fischbach, in the canton of Mersch. The latter will become the residence of his parents Henri and Maria Teresa.
These moves, “are envisaged by 2026, without a final calendar being stopped at this stage”, specifies the house of the Grand Duke. Guillaume, Stéphanie and their children should settle for a time at the castle while waiting for the delivery of their house. “It is a single -family house that will not be huge. As with everyone, a modification of the PAG had to be approved in July 2024, ”notes the bourgmestre of Colmar-Berg, Mandy Arendt.
The house cannot exceed 9.50 m high and 17.50 m with the basement and should integrate a bunker.
