Champions League 2027: LDC Match Preview

by Archynetys Sports Desk

From 2027, there will be an opening match in the Champions League. As decided by UEFA with its clubs, the reigning champion will play the first match of the new premier category season.

The match that the reigning champion will be able to play in front of his audience will be the only one to take place on Tuesday, in order to focus on the winner of the previous season.

All other participants will only start the new season on Wednesday and Thursday, in order to ‘guarantee maximum visibility for all clubs’, according to the UEFA press release.

If this rule had been introduced at the start of the current season, defending champions Paris Saint-Germain would have opened Europe’s top club competition against Atalanta Bergamo at the Parc des Princes in Paris, but the French, winning 4-0, only played on Wednesday – six matches were scheduled on that day, like Tuesday and Thursday.
