IF YOU REMEMBER, WE HAD THOSE AFTERNOON THUNDERSTORMS THAT BROUGHT BACK SOME BREEZES AND IT PICKED UP FROM THERE. WITH THOSE SOUTH WINDS BECOMING STRONG AFTER MIDNIGHT, THEY PEAKED AROUND THREE 4:00 THIS MORNING RIGHT AS THE RAIN MOVED IN. AND AT THIS MOMENT THE WINDS HAVE TAPERED A BIT, BUT IT’S STILL BREEZY WITH SOME GUSTS. NOW HERE ARE SOME OF THE STRONGER WIND GUSTS CLOCKED AT WEATHER STATIONS AROUND THE REGION THIS MORNING AT THE SACRAMENTO EXECUTIVE AIRPORT 56MPH PLACERVILLE ALSO IN THE 50S. CHECK OUT YUBA CITY, THEIR WEATHER STATION REGISTERED A WIND GUST OF 67MPH AND FURTHER WEST, WHERE THE STORMS WERE RAINIER AND WINDIER. 73 MILE PER HOUR WIND GUSTS AT THE SAN FRANCISCO INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, WHILE THE STRONGEST WINDS ARE DONE. WE’RE NOT COMPLETELY OUT OF THE WOODS YET. THE REST OF THE MORNING AND AFTERNOON WILL BE BREEZY, BUT THE WINDS DO PICK UP RIGHT AFTER DINNERTIME AGAIN TODAY AS ANOTHER WAVE OF RAIN APPROACHES. Thousands of people in Northern California woke up on Christmas morning without power, after strong winds with gusts in excess of 50 mph moved across the region overnight. Nearly 3,000 SMUD customers remained without power in Sacramento County on Thursday morning, down from a height of 12,600, according to the utility’s outage map. Outages were reported in the Rio Linda, Carmichael and Rancho Cordova areas. More than 12,000 Pacific Gas and Electric Co. customers in Nevada County lost power, according to the utility’s outage map. In Placer County, nearly 6,000 PG&E customers were in the dark.In Auburn, police said a tree was down on East Placer Street and nearby roads were closed. As of 7 a.m., another 7,700 people were without power in Yuba County, 3,000 in Calaveras County, 2,900 in Sutter County, 2,000 in El Dorado County and 1,700 in Yolo County.Across the state, more than 164,000 people were without power in all, according to a state dashboard. Sonoma, Monterey and San Mateo counties each had close to 20,000 customers without power.PG&E says it has activated 8,000 workers to respond to outages.
