This Friday, an indigenous demonstration took place in Bogotá that began from the National University and headed towards the United States embassy. The Public Force reacted and they were attacked with arrows.

In videos circulating on social networks, you can see how four members of the Dialogue and Maintenance of Order Unit (Undmo) were injured with these short sharp weapons and are helped on the street by coexistence managers.

The public force intervened to restore order in the area once the indigenous demonstration reached the vicinity of the United States embassy.

Mobility has also been affected by the riots and the capital’s main transportation system, Transmilenio, has had to close the Corferias, Ciudad Universitaria, Quinta Paredes, Gobernación, CAN, Salitre El Greco and El Tiempo Chamber of Commerce stations due to the contingency.

The president of Colombia, Gustavo Petroexpressed himself through his X account about what is happening in Bogotá: “I ordered the utmost care with the US embassy in Bogotá. Unfortunately, after reaching an agreement with the “People’s Congress” to lift the blockades, a more radical group has attacked the police guarding the embassy with several young people injured with arrows. The embassy was taken care of as promised. “Colombia complies with international treaties.”

Meanwhile, the mayor of Bogotá, Carlos Fernando Galán asserted that there will be no room for violence in the city and ordered the public force to reestablish order in the area.

I have instructed the Police to intervene in the vicinity of the United States Embassy, where criminals, some hooded, attacked the embassy with incendiary devices, explosives and arrows. 4 police officers were injured in the face, leg and arms. At this time, the police intervention on El Dorado Avenue continues. I want to be clear: in Bogotá there is no room for violence. Likewise, we will report these acts to judicial authorities, the Ombudsman and the UN,” he wrote.

The Secretary of Government, Gustavo Quintero, rejected the attacks on those in uniform through his social networks: “Unfortunately, around 3:30 in the afternoon a large group of people, some of them hooded, arrived at the United States Embassy with incendiary devices, arrows and instruments to vandalize the embassy, putting at risk not only those inside the building, but also the residents of the residential neighborhood where the diplomatic representation is located.”
