[イスタンブール 2日 ロイター] – On the 2nd, the Russian-flagged tanker Midvolga 2 carrying sunflower oil was attacked by a drone 130 kilometers off the coast of Turkey. This was announced by the Turkish Maritime Authority and shipping company Tribeca. The 13 crew members are said to be safe.
Maritime authorities said the tanker was heading to the Turkish port of Sinop. There was no call for help, and the ship was said to be sailing toward Georgia. It is currently unknown who carried out the attack.
“The necessary messages have been conveyed to the relevant parties, including the Ukrainian authorities,” a Turkish official said in response to a request for comment, without providing further details.
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said on the 1st that attacks on commercial ships in the Black Sea were unacceptable and issued a warning to “all parties involved.”
Meanwhile, Ukrainian Foreign Ministry spokesman Heorgy Tychy said Ukraine was not involved in Saturday’s attack and that attacking the ship “makes no sense” given its route to Georgia. “This suggests that Russia may have orchestrated the whole thing. Ukraine has nothing to do with this incident and officially denies such claims by Russian propaganda.”
Russia could not be reached for comment.
