The Bernocchi Cup is synonymous with history in Italian cycling. Born in 1919 thanks to the impulse of the Textile Industrial Antonio Bernocchi and organized since then by the Uniona Sportiva Legnanese, the Legnano classic has kept alive a legacy that joins sport and territory in the heart of Lombardy. Part of the “Triptic Lombardo“, next to the Agostoni Cup and the three Varesinos valleyshas sometimes served as a championship in Italy en route (1961, 1976 and 1984) and until 2019 he was part of the UCI Europe Tour. Among its victors is Danilo Napolitano, remembered for its three consecutive wins between 2005 and 2007.

More than a century later, Bernocchi remains faithful to its essence, and the next edition, which will run on Monday, October 6, will once again bet on a tour “in the sign of tradition”. The race, first appointment of the week that will culminate with Il Lombardia, will maintain departure and arrival in Legnano and present a 191.6 kilometers route. After a quick and plain start of 35 kilometers, the platoon will face the Olona Valley circuit, which will take eight laps. Each turn includes two difficulties: first the wall of San Pancrazio, just 500 meters but demanding in repetition, and then the authentic judge of the day, the Piccolo Stelvionow renamed Caramamma. With its ramps and a final step to just over 30 kilometers of the finish line, this climb promises to select the group and wear out the sprinters.

The route adds an accumulated slope close to 2,000 meterssufficient figure to test both the resistance and the tactical capacity of the runners. After the last ascent, a quick drop and a long final stretch in Llano open two possible outcomes: a reduced sprint if the equipment manages to regroup, or the success of an attacker capable of resisting the persecution.
