Los Angeles (dpa) – Pop star Barry Manilow (82, “Mandy”) has to take a longer break from the stage after lung cancer surgery. On medical advice, he is postponing his performances in Las Vegas planned for mid-February to a later date, the singer announced on Instagram. He needs to rest for a few more weeks. However, he assured his fans that he was feeling “great” after the operation and that he was recovering excellently. He’s already doing sports again and spending time in the studio.
Shortly before Christmas, Manilow made his lung cancer diagnosis public. “An MRI found a cancerous spot on my left lung that needs to be removed,” he wrote on Instagram at the time. He had previously suffered from bronchitis for many weeks. The next step is an operation to remove the suspicious tissue. He doesn’t need chemotherapy or radiation at first – “just chicken soup and reruns of “I Love Lucy,” a US sitcom from the 1950s.
In the wake of his illness, Manilow had postponed several concerts planned for January, but initially held on to his performances in February. A tour of several US states is scheduled from the end of February to the end of April.
