Aoun indicated, during his meeting with the delegation of the Editors’ Syndicate, headed by Captain Joseph Al-Qasifi, that Lebanon has not officially received any clear American position, and is awaiting the arrival of the new American ambassador who may carry an Israeli answer.
He considered that Speaker Berri’s position is almost parallel to previous maritime border negotiations, and that the “mechanisms” committee includes all parties and people can be added to it if necessary.
In response to a question about Lebanon’s ability to exert pressure to liberate the land, he stressed that each party has its own project. The Americans seek stability, and Lebanon seeks to stop the attacks, liberate the land, and recover the prisoners, and the government is solely responsible.
Regarding the Beirut Port file, he explained that he had obtained Bulgarian approval to conduct a virtual investigation into the owner of the ship “Roussus,” and the request would be submitted from the Lebanese Minister of Justice to his Bulgarian counterpart.
Regarding the parliamentary elections, he stressed his insistence, along with Berri and Nawaf Salam, that they be held on time, and that the House of Representatives must play its role.
Regarding the American-Syrian meeting, he considered it positive, pointing out that Syria’s stability is necessary for Lebanon, and that talk of Lebanon’s “binding” to Syria are just rumors.
Regarding the depositors’ file, he was reassured that their rights are a red line, and emphasis is placed on them in all meetings with financial officials, as is the case with the Governor of the Bank of Lebanon.
