Recently, a study by Apartments.com made it clear to us that, although smaller cities are generally the most affordable, some large cities also offer surprisingly spacious apartments for less than US$2,000. Compared to other cities, this is one of the most generous options in terms of space. San Antonio, Texas: more square footage for less
San Antonio is also a city where your money goes a long way. With the same budget of $2,000 a month, you can find an even larger apartment than in Houston, averaging 1,517 square feet (approximately 140 square meters). This is another excellent example of how Texas, although conurbated, manages to keep prices relatively low. In addition, San Antonio has a unique cultural attraction, thanks to its historical monuments and a mix of Texan and modern tradition.
Jacksonville, Florida: good option on the east coast
If beaches and sun appeal to you, but without the inflated prices of other coastal cities, Jacksonville is a great option. For $2,000, you can rent a 1,762-square-foot (163-square-meter) apartment, which is considerably larger than many options in the country’s most expensive cities. In addition, El Paso offers a unique environment, with a rich cultural heritage and a fairly affordable cost of living compared to other large Texas cities.
AND WHICH ARE THE MOST EXPENSIVE BIG CITIES?
While in the cities mentioned, a budget of US$2,000 allows you to access large apartments, in cities like New York, Los Angeles or San Francisco, this amount would only be enough to rent much smaller spaces. For example, in New York, $2,000 would buy you an apartment that’s just 24 square meters (267 square feet). The same is true in Los Angeles, where that amount would allow you to rent just 530 square feet (49 square meters). It is a clear contrast to the more accessible cities we have mentioned.
