Hachiko Statue Repainted: Fukushima Village Kids’ Green Makeover

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

An object depicting the faithful dog Hachiko installed at the roadside station Maikan in Iitate Village, Iitate Village, Fukushima Prefecture, has been repainted green. The work was carried out on the 25th at Iitate Kibo no Sato Gakuen, an elementary and junior high school compulsory education school in the village.
Masami Sanpei, chairman of the village faithful dog Hachiko Statue Maintenance Association, and 16 children participated. The decision to change the color to green was decided by a vote of the children. Participants worked together to repaint the purple objects green. The children said, “Coloring was fun,” and “I hope we can continue to interact with each other.”
The object depicting the faithful dog Hachiko was presented to the village in 2013 by the Shibuya Koen-dori Shopping District Promotion Association in Tokyo. Repainting work is carried out regularly.
