The President of the United States (US) Donald Trump has bluntly emphasized that he does not need international law to address a series of his policies which have become the world’s spotlight. International Relations observer, Teuku Rezasyah, analyzed why Trump could say that.
“The UN, especially the UN Security Council, has long been controlled by the US. The UN will be tough on countries criticized by the US and silence the practices of violations carried out by countries approved by the US,” Rezasyah told reporters, Sunday (11/1/2026).
He said Trump’s leadership had made the US a common enemy of many countries. Rezasyah stated that Trump had violated the UN Charter.

“Currently America is confused because it is led by a President Donald Trump who is very confident. This President is very brave in violating national law which requires approval from the United States Congress which regulates foreign operations as well as international law which regulates international governance. It is very clear that President Donald Trump has violated the UN Charter,” he said.
This international relations lecturer at President University said Trump made the United States a threat to other countries. He brought up Trump’s move to detain Maduro.
“By attacking Venezuela, kidnapping President Maduro and imposing rule from the United States on Venezuela, the US has made itself a destroyer of democracy, as well as threatening security in the regions of North America, Central America, South America and the Caribbean,” he said.
Rezasyah said Trump’s plan to control Greenland from Denmark had the potential to damage the synergy of the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO). This action is also seen as reducing NATO’s pride in front of China and Russia.
“Furthermore, by threatening to take control of Greenland, the US has damaged the synergy and cohesiveness within NATO. It also has the potential to reduce NATO’s pride in front of Russia and China. NATO began to erode during the Donald Trump era,” said Rezasyah.
“It is estimated that the US will target many energy-rich countries in various parts of the world. Countries are starting to think about the worst case scenario because they have seen how frightening the US attack on Venezuela is and the subsequent prospects in Canada and Mexico. This situation is very scary,” he added.
Trump conveyed this, as reported Anadolu Agency And Japan TimesFriday (9/1), in an interview with leading US media, New York Times (NYT), which was released on Wednesday (7/1) local time. Trump said the only thing that could stop him was his ‘own morality’, not international law.
When asked by NOW Asked whether there were limits to the global power he now wields as US President, Trump replied: “Yes, there is one thing. My own morality. My own mind. That’s the only thing that can stop me.”
At that time, Trump emphasized that he did not need international law. “I don’t need international law,” Trump said.
However, Trump also added, “I have no intention of hurting people.”
When pressed further by NOW On whether his administration needs to comply with international law, Trump said, “Yes it does.”
