Zootopia 2the animated film that dominated the box office during 2025, will finally be available in Disney+ starting March 11. This premiere on the streaming platform marks the end of a successful film career that consolidated the sequel as the highest-grossing feature film of the year in the United States.
The film grossed approximately $426 million in the US market, narrowly surpassing The Minecraft Movie, which earned $424 million. However, the phenomenon of Zootopia 2 transcends American borders in spectacular ways. Internationally, the film generated more than three times its domestic gross, adding a global total close to $1.86 billion.
These figures consolidate Zootopia 2 as a colossal success for Disney, demonstrating the validity of its classic franchises and their ability to generate entertainment of global reach. The film remained in theatrical release for an extended period, consistently accumulating revenue week after week, allowing it to reach these extraordinary numbers.
Globally, however, the animated film Ne Zha 2 surpassed these records, generating approximately $2.26 billion, a figure that was mainly concentrated in international markets. Despite not leading globally, Zootopia 2’s performance is extraordinary considering it competed in a particularly robust film year.
The arrival of Zootopia 2 on Disney+ represents a valuable opportunity for streaming audiences who were unable to access the film during its theatrical run. This also allows those who saw it in theaters to revisit it at home, re-examining whether its commercial success corresponds to its cinematic quality.
It should be noted that 2025 was an exceptional year for animation and large productions. Avatar: Fire and Ash, Lilo & Stitch and The Minecraft Movie also grossed significant sums, all exceeding $400 million. However, it was Zootopia 2 that captured the largest share of the US domestic market, establishing itself as the film of the year in that territory.
