Rais Syuriyah PBNU Muhammad Cholil Nafas spoke about the conflict that occurred within the PBNU management. He said there was penetration from Zionists into the largest Islamic organization.

“Yes, as from the beginning, there was a consensus from the Executive Board, from the PBNU Syuriyah, first of all, there were indications of Zionist penetration in PBNU. That is the main thing, so this perception will damage PBNU’s credibility and good name,” said Cholil to journalists in Jakarta, Saturday (13/12/2025).

Cholil said PBNU’s stance was consistent in supporting the Palestinian struggle who are currently victims of the Israeli genocide. According to him, the PBNU management’s historical choice of inviting Zionist supporter figures in the midst of the genocide in Palestine would cause polemics.

“In the midst of the genocide, NU’s attention was the highest, it became the leadership of NU, then invited Zionists. Initially, Rais Aam had warned and warned against inviting figures from contemporary Islam or calm Islam from the Middle East, but this was not done,” he said.

He then also touched on organizational governance at PBNU. He assessed that harmony within the management body was lacking.

“Including there are several branches which should have received legality which cannot be implemented yet. That is the main point. Because the focus in Syuriyah is financial governance, organizational governance,” he explained.

Regarding the polemic about mining management concessions, Cholil said that it was just flowers on the outside. This is not the main point of discussion.

“The other thing is related to mining, well that is just external interest, external perception. That is not the main issue in the discussion. For example, if there is a signal, maybe there are some people, but not in the organizational decision,” he concluded.
