Zelensky Emphasizes Need for Unconditional Ceasefire

In a statement following a conversation with British Prime Minister Kira Starmer, President Zelensky stressed the critical importance of an unconditional ceasefire as the initial step towards a durable peace. US Proposals: Sanctions Relief and Territorial Concessions?

Details of the US-backed “peace agreement” have emerged, suggesting a potential framework involving the easing of sanctions against Russia in exchange for a sustained ceasefire. Furthermore, reports indicate that the US might consider recognizing Russia’s annexation of Crimea in 2014 and advocate for Ukraine’s non-alignment with NATO. These proposals, however, remain contentious and face meaningful opposition from within Ukraine and among its allies. Such as, Poland has consistently voiced strong opposition to any concessions that legitimize Russian territorial gains.

Easter Ceasefire: A Glimmer of hope Marred by Violations

A temporary Easter ceasefire, announced unexpectedly by Russian President Vladimir Putin, offered a brief respite from the fighting. The ceasefire, intended to last from Saturday evening untill Monday midnight, was met with cautious optimism. Ukraine pledged to reciprocate the truce but warned of a symmetrical response should Russia fail to uphold its commitment.

Russian dictator Vladimir Putin on saturday announced an unexpected Easter ceasefire, promising to stop all the war from Saturday at 6 pm until midnight to Monday. Ukraine said it would follow the ceasefire, but warned that it would be symmetrical if the ceasefire was not followed by Russia.

Despite the agreement, President Zelensky reported over 2,000 alleged violations by Russian forces during the ceasefire period. Though, he also acknowledged the absence of air raid alarms on Sunday, leading him to propose an extension of the truce for at least 30 days, specifically targeting a cessation of long-range strikes on civilian infrastructure. The effectiveness of any future ceasefire will depend heavily on robust monitoring and verification mechanisms to ensure compliance and prevent further violations.
