To commemorate the 78th anniversary of the Yogyakarta City Government, free screenings for cervical and breast cancer are being offered to residents.The initiative aims to promote early detection and prevention of these diseases,wich are meaningful health concerns in Indonesia.
Cancer is a major health challenge in Indonesia, with prevalence increasing from 1.4 per 1,000 people in 2013 to 1.79 per 1,000 in 2018,according to Riskesdas data. It is also a leading cause of death. Cervical cancer is one of the most common cancers affecting women in Indonesia, second only to breast cancer. The primary cause of cervical cancer is infection with the Human papillomavirus (HPV).

Early detection and preventative measures are crucial in managing cervical cancer. identifying and addressing the disease early can significantly reduce the risk of cancer development, leading to better health outcomes and reduced economic burden.
Head of the health Office Dr. Emma Rahmi Aryi, MM, emphasized the importance of this initiative, stating, “In the context of eliminating cervical cancer, on the 78th anniversary of the Yogyakarta City Government, 2025 Yogyakarta City Health Office will hold early detection of cancer, especially cervical cancer and breast cancer.” She highlighted the commitment of the Yogyakarta City Health Office to the National Action Plan for the Elimination of cervical cancer 2023-2030.
