A man in the United States named Skip Boyce (49) carried out a reckless experiment in locking himself up for a whole year to be healthy. He called this challenge an ‘isolation year’ in order to improve physical and mental health conditions.
He broadcast the process for 24 hours non-stop and called it a reset. Through this isolation, he wants to avoid noise, distractions, and focus on things that he said he never paid much attention to, such as health, discipline, and focus.
“I didn’t disappear. I stayed at home, kept working, and stayed with my family. What I lost were optional things, endless scrolling, entertainment, social events, and decisions that didn’t move me forward,” said Boyce, quoted from People, Saturday (7/2/2026).

He implemented several rules, such as not having guests in his room, not consuming alcohol or drugs, and he had to exercise regularly with the target of losing weight and increasing physical strength.
Assistance from his family was limited to delivering essential needs such as food and toiletries. He also plans to improve his diet and record everything he consumes.
“So I know what helps and what actually harms my body,” said Boyce.
He will only leave the room in an emergency. For example, a medical emergency, fire, dangerous building conditions, or law enforcement attending.
He emphasized that this challenge was not just manufactured content or drama. Boyce said this will not be easy and may not be comfortable to watch.
“A lot of people think this is just content. It’s not. If you’re watching because it’s interesting, intense or motivating, go ahead. But that’s not the main goal of Isolation Year. It’s a participatory experiment,” said Boyce.
“I did this to rebuild discipline, structure and habits at a young age and many of you are here because you are trying to do something similar in your own way,” he said.
