A photo exhibition will be held that looks at the 10-year journey of Yangyang surfing culture.
Yangyang-gun and Yangyang-gun Surfing Association (Chairman Nae Hong) will hold a photo exhibition commemorating the 10th anniversary of the Yangyang Surfing Festival at the exhibition hall on the 4th floor of Ssamzi-gil, Insa-dong, Seoul from tomorrow (28th) to November 3rd.
This exhibition, under the theme of ‘Yangyang, beyond the sea and into culture – 10 years of records’, was planned to look back on the 10-year journey of the Yangyang Surfing Festival since its inception in 2014 and record the flow of regional changes and Yangyang’s marine leisure culture that has expanded with a focus on surfing.
Yangyang Surfing Festival was launched in 2014, before domestic surfing culture became popular in earnest, starting with the ‘1st Yangyang-gun International Surfing Festival’, which was held jointly by surfing schools in the Gangwon region. Since then, it has established itself as Yangyang’s representative summer festival that surfers and tourists can enjoy together by operating high-quality surfing competitions and introducing various experience programs, environmental campaigns, and performances.

In this photo exhibition, you can see at a glance Yangyang’s marine leisure culture spread through surfing, the growth of local youth and communities, eco-friendly activities, and the development of sports culture. In addition, it is introduced with various visual materials that capture the changes and cultural trends of the beach that have been created together by surfers and residents.
On-site participation events will also be held during the exhibition period. When participating in the SNS verification event, a commemorative beach bag will be given on a first-come-first-served basis. If you fill out the correct answer on the quiz card provided upon admission and submit it, you can receive commemorative goods on a first-come, first-served basis.
Yangyang-gun Surfing Association Chairman Nae-hong said, “As I was preparing for this exhibition, the faces of surfers, local residents, and Yangyang-gun officials who have created the Yangyang Surfing Festival together over the past 10 years came to mind,” and added, “I hope this will be an opportunity to look back on the beach culture of Yangyang that we have created together and dream of the next 10 years.”
Anyone can view the exhibition for free, and detailed information can be found on the Yangyang-gun Surfing Association’s official website and Instagram.
