Balbuena Earns Medalist Honors at Final WV Amateur Qualifier

Ludwig Balbuena secured medalist honors at the final qualifier for the
106th WV Amateur championship, held at Stonewall Resort. Six golfers
advanced to the championship at The Greenbrier.

Ludwig Balbuena of Hurricane claimed medalist honors at the “last chance”
qualifier for the 106th WV Amateur Championship, presented by Astorg Auto.The event, conducted by the west virginia Golf Association (WVGA), took
place on May 29 at Stonewall Resort in Roanoke. Balbuena finished at even
par (E) 72.
Over 400 golfers from West Virginia registered to qualify for this year’s
Amateur Championship. A 30-minute fog delay preceded the competition for
the final six openings in the Championship, with 69 players vying for a
spot.The other qualifying players were:
- Caleb osborne of Tunnelton, (+4) 76
- Isaac Hayes of Hurricane, (+5) 77
- Owen Estel of Morgantown, (+5) 77
- Gavin Martin of Scott Depot, (+6) 78
- Blake Davis of Huntington, (+6) 78
“We’re honored, once again, to host this event,” said Stonewall’s Head
Golf Professional Mike Rogers. “The course is a great test of golf for
these players, just as The Greenbrier will be starting Sunday.”
Championship to be Held at The Greenbrier for 99th Time

“We appreciate Stonewall our ‘last chance’ qualifier, and the cooler
temperatures and wet conditions were a challenge for the players,” said
WVGA Executive Director Chris slack. “Mike Rogers and the entire Stonewall
staff were great.”
United Bank is also a major sponsor.
The 106th Amateur Championship will take place June 1-4 at The
Greenbrier, which has hosted the event 98 of the past 106 years.
