Last year, SV Gresgen celebrated its 100th anniversary, but now a change is imminent. Of course, it is generally difficult for clubs to fill positions on the board, says chairman Markus Eichin in an interview with our editorial team. But at SV Gresgen people had been persuaded to continue for years. And now? “Now they can’t be persuaded anymore,” is how he explains the current situation.
So it became clear that the general meeting planned for March 28th had to be postponed “indefinitely”. Because: “If we had gone into the meeting like that, we would not have found anyone.”
Club is important to people
So a plan B was needed. The association organized its first meeting a month ago, invited members and friends and called it a “future event”. “We then made it clear that we needed support so that the club could continue,” says Eichin. It became clear that many people in town cared about the club, and so some people thought about it and decided to get involved, Eichin looks back with satisfaction. People who were already on the board also move to other positions. Many important positions were filled during the meeting. “That has brought us further,” says the chairman happily.
Further support is still needed
The most important offices have been filled, but some positions still require committed people. That’s why there will be another future evening on March 28th, 7 p.m., at Hofgut Leo in Gresgen. “The goal is to fill the final positions in a constructive and collaborative atmosphere. All interested people are invited,” the association writes in its announcement.
“We want to spread the work across several shoulders,” says Eichin. “But I’m confident that we can manage it. The Pro Ringen support association also needs a new chairman because he wants to take on another position in the main association.
“The club is actually doing great”
SV Gresgen currently has 350 members, which is a lot for the small mountain village. Many grew up in the town and now live far away, but remain connected to the club, says Eichin. As an active member, he counts 30 to 50 members who not only stand on the mat with the wrestlers, but also help out at events. The active players fight every year to stay in the league, says Eichin somewhat sadly. The chairman is pleased that there is a lot of popularity among young people and a lot of new blood. “The club is actually in a great position, a new board can look positively into the future.”
The next event is coming up on Saturday. Then SV Gresgen will organize the youth district championships. “We want to enable our young people to have a competition in their home hall once a year.”
