World of Warcraft faces one of its most anticipated transformations with the Midnight expansion and the debut of sistema housing. To do this, Blizzard is preparing to carry out a change in the MMORPG economy. Get ready, because the company wants you to get used to a new premium currency which we will see very soon. In addition to Battle.net balance, there will be a new World of Warcraft-specific currency for decoration and furniture.
Hearthsteel, the new WoW currency
Blizzard has announced that the new World of Warcraft currency is called Hearthsteel and can only be purchased with real money through Battle.net balance. The company assures that its use will be limited to purchase of housing objects both in the web store and within the game itself. Still, Blizzard has insisted that the “vast majority” of decorative items will continue to be unlocked through normal play, and that only “a small portion” will be sold with Hearthsteel.
What’s more, even these premium items can be obtained indirectly with gold thanks to WoW tokens, so they will not be locked behind a paywall. Furthermore, the study has clarified that Hearthsteel will not apply to other in-game productswhether mounts, transmogs or pets. Iconic decorations associated with races or classes will also not be marketed. The community believes that Hearthsteel could be the door to more microtransactions in the future.
Blizzard says the goal is expedite small purchases that are usually repeated over time, such as sets of chairs, candles or tables. These transactions are tedious if purchased individually. Even with this, the explanation What Blizzard has given about Hearthsteel has not convinced everyone. On Reddit, many players believe that the introduction of a premium currency in an MMO with more than 20 years of history is unnecessary and overshadows the real expense. It is very possible that these closed packages encourage spending more than necessary, and we will find out at the beginning of December with early access for those who have reserved the expansion.
