Lyle Gittens (108) and Eleanor Gittens (107), who have been married for 83 years, were registered in the Guinness World Records.

According to the New York Post on the 5th (local time), the Gittens married in Bradenton, Florida on June 4, 1942, and were officially recognized as the ‘world’s longest married couple’ for having been married for 83 years until this year. The previous record holder was Manoel Angelim Dino, but he passed away in October, so the Gittens and his wife set a new record.

Lyle Gittens was drafted into World War II shortly after his marriage and served on the Italian front. At the time, his wife, Eleanor, moved to New York and worked as an accountant at an aircraft parts company while she was pregnant and took care of the family. After the war, Lyle worked at the World Trade Center and Eleanor worked as a public school teacher, earning a doctorate in urban education.

The couple currently lives in Miami, USA, and has three children. A Guinness official said, “The marriage that lasted 83 years is an example of both historical significance and emotion.”
