AThe weather forecast for the next few days is for typical winter weather, although spring, which begins on March 20, is about to knock on the door.
For this Friday, March 13th, the Portuguese Institute of the Sea and Atmosphere (IPMA) predicts “periods of rain, generally light, in the North and Center, wind rotating towards the west quadrant and a drop in temperature”
In the North and Center regions the sky will be “generally very cloudy”, with periods of generally light rain, in Minho and Douro Litoral, “gradually extending to the remaining regions”.
Meteorologists also predict “snowfall in the highest points of Serra da Estrela at the end of the day” and “the possibility of frost formation in some places in the northeast of Trás-os-Montes and Beira Alta”.
In the South region, the sky will be “slightly cloudy or clear, increasing in cloudiness from the afternoon onwards”. There is also the possibility of periods of light rain in Alto Alentejo at the end of the day.
For Greater São Paulo, periods of very cloudy skies are expected, as well as some rain, generally light, more likely in the early morning and late afternoon.
As for Porto, the population can expect generally very cloudy skies, periods of rain, generally light, from the early morning onwards.
A similar scenario awaits Madeira and the Azores, where the sky will be cloudy. In the Central and Eastern groups of this archipelago it may still rain.
Temperatures will suffer a slight drop across the country, which will be more pronounced on Saturday, March 14th.
For tomorrow. Thermometers are then expected to reach a maximum of around 15ºC. Faro will be the hottest district with a maximum of 20ºC and a minimum of 12ºC, followed by Setúbal, with a maximum of 17ºC and a minimum of 10ºC. In Lisbon, a maximum of 15ºC and a minimum of 11ºC are expected, and in Porto a maximum of 12ºC and a minimum of 9ºC. The coolest districts will be Guarda (8ºC/4ºC) and Viseu (9ºC/6ºC).
The sky will be very cloudy, with rain forecast for Sagres, Lisbon, Santarém, Leiria, Coimbra, Aveiro, Porto, Braga, Viana do Castelo, Vila Real and Viseu.
There are also forecasts of snowfall “above 1200/1400 meters in altitude, temporarily” and “1000/1200 meters in altitude in the extreme north, rising to the highest points of the Serra da Estrela from the afternoon”, as well as “the possibility of ice formation in some places in the interior of the Center”.
On the coast, sea disturbances are still expected.
On Sunday, March 15, the thermometers will rise a little again and will reach a maximum of 20ºC. The sky, however, will remain very cloudy in most districts. Rain, for now, is only forecast that day for some islands in the Central Group of the Azores.
