Wiener Linien passengers can change to other forms of public transport at almost 3,700 stops. In order to know whether you need to rush to reach the connecting line, there will be new, practical transfer displays on public transport that will indicate in how many minutes the next public transport you want will leave.

In the future, new transfer displays will be available on the information screens of almost 500 buses operated by Wiener Linien and almost 130 Flexity trams. These are located centrally in the vehicle interior and provide information before each stop about which other lines leave there, how many minutes the next vehicle will start and in which direction it is traveling. It also shows whether the vehicle is barrier-free or not.

Wiener Linien transfer displays with real-time data

“We are constantly investing in a modern and efficient public transport system. The new transfer notices are another component in making public transport even more attractive and encouraging more people to switch to buses and Bim,” says public transport city councilor Ulli Sima.

Approximately 20 seconds before entering the station, the transfer information is displayed on the info screen. This means that passengers have enough time to find out how to continue their journey after getting off. The vehicle receives the real-time data directly from the Wiener Linien data hub, which is also accessed by the WienMobil app.

New, better orientation monitors in Vienna’s public transport from April

“With our new displays on the monitors, our passengers can orientate themselves even better in the public transport network. The new transfer displays offer even better convenience and are an example of how digitalization and technical solutions help to get from A to B even better and faster. This means we can handle the passenger flow even more smoothly,” explains Gudrun Senk, technical managing director of Wiener Linien.

The system was developed in the communications technology and train control department of the Wiener Linien in cooperation with the technicians from Infoscreen. The new displays are currently being implemented in all suitable vehicles. The changeover will be completed by March 30th at the latest.
