Can you say from the memory when Apple introduced the live photos on the iPhone? Probably not, because it was a long time ago. The live photos were introduced with the iPhone 6S and iOS 9, which was actually in September 2015, exactly 10 years ago. The WhatsApp Messenger (App Store Link) has now noticed this.
You may have already received a corresponding note in the app in the past few days or just found it. Meta has now also confirmed the whole thing in a newsroom contribution. “Now you can share live photos (iOS) and motion photos (Android) that add the tone and movement recorded with your camera so that you can share even more impressive moments with your friends,” it says.
However, the whole story doesn’t really run so well, at least that’s my impression. At least in my first test, only part of the live photo animation was displayed, significantly less than was actually recorded. Please have a look with you whether you find a difference to the original from the photo app.
However, the feature is probably only rolled out. You may already see live photos in WhatsApp, but you can’t send it yourself yet. A few more days are required here. After 10 years it is probably no longer important.
These are further innovations in WhatsApp
In the newsroom contribution linked above, some other functions that WhatsAppP has received in the past few weeks are mentioned. Among other things, an improved search for WhatsApp groups. Sometimes they get wild names that you may not remember directly. From now on you will also find the groups if you simply look for a person who is also in the group.
