Emergency forces are fully required
The handling of fireworks led to a large-scale operation by the fire department in Westendorf. A defective dishwasher apparently caused a fire in Hall‘s old town. As a result, one resident even had to be rescued from the roof.
Westendorf, Hall in Tirol – A fire not only kept the emergency services on tenterhooks on the Nordkette high above Innsbruck on Saturday – the fire departments also had their hands full in other parts of the country.
In Westendorf, careless handling of fireworks apparently led to a fire breaking out: around 4:15 p.m., a 57-year-old Austrian ignited several pyrotechnic objects in the garden of a single-family home. When a firecracker was fired, it hit the thuja hedge, which promptly caught fire. After the man’s own attempts to extinguish the fire using a bucket of water were unsuccessful, the man’s partner called the fire department.
The FF Westendorf, which deployed with three vehicles and 27 emergency services, was able to successfully fight the fire. Part of the thuja hedge burned down to the trunks over a length of around seven meters. The 57-year-old will be reported to the Kitzbühel district authority for a violation of the Pyrotechnics Act.
Old town fire in Hall, residents evacuated
The police and fire departments were also in full demand in Hall: around 5:15 p.m. a fire broke out in an old town apartment on Mustergasse. The police patrol, which was first on site, tried to contain the fire on the first floor using a fire extinguisher, but had to stop due to the heavy smoke.
The Hall and Heiligkreuz volunteer fire departments, which were deployed with a total of seven vehicles and 42 active members, were then able to extinguish the fire and report “fire out” at 5:45 p.m. The residents of the fire and the adjacent residential buildings had to be evacuated briefly, with a man from the top apartment in the affected house being rescued from the roof using a turntable ladder.
There was significant damage to the affected apartment. A fire investigator was able to determine the cause of the fire to be a technical defect in the dishwasher area. Luckily no one was injured. (TT.com)
