Weight Loss Before Colon Cancer Surgery: Fewer Complications

Regardless of demographic characteristics, obesity increases the risk of postoperative complications in the treatment of colorectal cancer. A British research group evaluated the effect of preoperative weight loss with a BMI ≥ 28. With a low-energy diet of 800 kcal and 76 g protein/day, 61% in the intervention group and 9% with standard treatment lost 5% or more of their weight in the average 33 days before surgery.
