Possible Remains of Travis Decker Found in Washington State

The revelation comes after months of searching following the deaths of his three daughters.


Authorities in north-central Washington State announced late Thursday the discovery of human remains believed too be those of Travis Decker. Decker was the subject of an extensive search following the deaths of his three daughters earlier this year.

The Chelan County Sheriff’s Office stated that the remains were located during a search this week in a wooded area south of Leavenworth, Wash. The proclamation was made public Thursday night via a statement.

“While positive identification has not yet been confirmed,preliminary findings suggest the remains belong to Travis decker,” the statement read.

The Sheriff’s Office is working with the Washington State Police crime scene response team to process the scene. DNA analysis will follow.

Local, state, and federal law enforcement agencies have been searching for Decker since June 2.On that date, his three daughters — 5-year-old Olive, 8-year-old Evelyn, and 9-year-old Paityn — were discovered deceased near a campground along Icicle Creek, just outside of Leavenworth.

The children were found with plastic bags over their heads, and cable ties were present nearby. The medical examiner’s autopsies persistent that each child died by suffocation, and the manner of death was ruled as homicide.

On August 6, the Washington State crime lab reported that DNA profiles matching Decker were found on the plastic bags that had been placed over his daughters’ heads.

Authorities stated that no other DNA besides Decker’s and his daughters’ was found on the plastic bags. His DNA profile was the only one found on the cable ties.

Earlier this summer, the U.S. Marshals Service offered a reward of $20,000. In June, Washington Gov. Bob Ferguson authorized emergency funds and the state’s National Guard resources to aid in the search.
