“Washington’s orders to Venezuelan politicians are enough. Let it be Venezuelan politics that resolves our internal differences and conflicts. Enough of foreign powers,” Rodriguez said in a message to oil workers in the eastern state of Anzoategui.
“It has cost this republic very dearly to have to face the consequences of fascism and extremism in our country,” she exclaimed.
Delcy Rodriguez was sworn in as interim head of state on January 5, after the capture of socialist President Nicolas Maduro by the United States during a spectacular military operation in Caracas. Following which, Mr. Trump announced that Washington intended to “dictate” Venezuela’s decisions until further notice.
Since then, under American pressure, she has signed oil agreements with the United States, initiated legislative reform including in particular a law on hydrocarbons, released political prisoners and called for agreements with the opposition.
Last week, the White House, without setting a date, announced that it wanted to invite Ms. Rodriguez to the United States, after a telephone conversation between Mr. Trump and her and several laudatory statements from the American president towards her.
