Vannes: French Volleyball Cup Boosts U13 Women’s Team

Participating in the Coupe de France and tasting the joys of qualifying, round after round, these are very strong moments. This is what the U13 women’s team from Vannes Volleyball 56 is experiencing with great happiness, which reached the seventh round of this competition. Two more steps to go and the protégés of Théo Laurent, their coach, will head to Caudry (Hauts-de-France) from May 8 to 10, where the final phases will be contested between the twelve best teams in France. But before achieving this dream, the Vannetaises will have to perform once again, this Saturday March 15, in Sainte-Maxime (Var), to continue the adventure.

“An atypical group”

President Jean-Michel Mathevet is delighted with the journey already achieved by the team and wishes them to experience the final stages as the U13 men did last year with a third place result. “Beyond the results, the Coupe de France offers great emotions, it allows young people to join the overall project of the club, whose vocation is training. All young people want to experience this Coupe de France one day. »

Théo Laurent, who arrived at the club at the start of the season and sports director of the women’s division, confirms how much this competition has made this U13 group grow in their game and in their minds: “Unlike our opponents, we do not have big sizes. It’s an atypical group in our sport, but our players have a lot of technical potential. It’s impressive to see their evolution as the rounds go by. It’s the best competition to compete at a high level. »

Since the start of the Coupe de France, they have only lost one match, knowing that each round is played in triangular form. Of the eight girls who participated in the previous rounds (a team is made up of four players, editor’s note), there will only be five to make the trip to the Var, for financial reasons. “A trip like this costs €2,000,” remarks the president, who does not forget to point out that the U15 men, the majority were in U13 last year and had won third place in the Coupe de France, also achieved a good performance by reaching the sixth round of the Coupe de France.
