Alappuzha: The expert team that investigated the medical malpractice complaint at Vandanam Medical College will hand over its report to the Director of Medical Education today. The investigation was conducted by experts from Thiruvananthapuram and Kottayam Medical Colleges. During the surgery, it was found that the medical instrument got stuck in the woman’s stomach and the failure occurred. Based on this, Dr. Shahidaya and Nursing Officer Dhanya, who performed the surgery, were suspended last night.
Further action will be based on the findings of the expert committee. Since Dr. Lalithambika, who was the unit chief at the time of the surgery, has retired from service, the health department will soon take a decision on the action against them. The complainants had also raised allegations of bribery against them.
