A US (US) warship, USS Lake Erie, was detected across the waters of the Panama Canal. The US warship sailed from the Pacific area to the Caribbean region on Friday (29/8) evening local time.
The presence of this US warship, as reported AFPSaturday (8/30/2025), monitored after the administration of President Donald Trump announced the deployment of a number of warships near Venezuela’s coast, when the tensions of the two countries increased.
The AFP journalists saw control ships with controlling the US Navy through one of the floodgates at the Panama Canal on Friday (29/8) night, at 21:30 local time, and sailed east to Atlantic.

The US previously said the deployment of a number of warships to the southern Caribbean region, near Venezuela’s territorial waters, was part of drug anti-trade operations.
“I don’t know that the ship will be leva … I am surprised,” said a 32 -year -old health technician, Alfredo Cedeno, who had taken a photo of the US warship while talking to AFP.
USS Lake Erie’s warship has been tethered over the past two days at Rodman Port, at the Pacific entrance at the Panama Canal.
The US warship activity was detected after Washington accused Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro of leading the drug cartel. The US also doubled the offer for the arrest of Maduro to US $ 50 million, or equivalent to Rp 821.7 billion.
Washington also mobilized five warships and sent 4,000 troops in the Caribbean region to put pressure on Maduro.
However, the US has so far not openly threatening to invade Venezuela.
Maduro, in a statement on Friday (29/8), said “impossible” US troops can invade Venezuela. He swore that Venezuela had prepared to maintain “peace, sovereignty, and territorial integrity”.
“There’s no way they can enter Venezuela,” Maduro said in his statement.
Caracas responded to the US mobilization by sending a number of warships and drones to patrol the coastline of its territory, and launch efforts to recruit thousands of militia members to strengthen their defense.
