China News Service, New York, June 24th. The eastern part of the United States was hit by a strong heat wave on the 24th. The afternoon temperatures soared to above 38 degrees Celsius in Washington, New York, Boston and other places, and nearly 160 million people across the United States were under high temperature alerts.

According to ABC, a strong heat wave swept the East Coast region, with several major cities breaking the record-breaking record for June highest temperatures since local records. As far as the thermal index is concerned, the capital Washington has the highest somatosensory temperature, reaching 43 degrees Celsius.

Affected by the high temperature, the U.S. rail system was forced to implement speed limit measures, resulting in delays in multiple trains. According to the American Railway Company, train delays on major intercity lines such as New York to Washington generally exceed 60 minutes.

NBC reported that the “dangerous heat wave” since Monday has put nearly 160 million people in the United States on a high temperature alert, and deaths caused by high temperatures have been reported in eastern and central cities. A woman died in her home without air conditioning in St. Ann, Missouri. In Patterson, New Jersey, more than 100 people need treatment during two outdoor graduation ceremonies.

Meteorological departments in many places said that significant high temperature impacts are expected to continue until Wednesday, and precipitation may occur afterwards. In order to cope with the peak of electricity use, United Edison, which mainly serves the eastern United States, has launched an emergency plan for power supply and also called on people to save electricity.
