Vehicle Collides with Pedestrians at Liverpool FC Victory Parade

Emergency services responded to reports of a vehicle striking a crowd celebrating Liverpool FC’s Premier League title.


A vehicle struck multiple pedestrians during a celebratory parade in Liverpool,England,on Monday evening. The incident occurred around 6 p.m. local time on water Street, where thousands had gathered to celebrate Liverpool FC’s recent Premier league championship victory over Tottenham Hotspur in April. Emergency services and law enforcement quickly arrived at the scene following reports of the collision, according to a statement from Merseyside Police.

While the full extent of injuries and potential casualties remains unclear, British Prime Minister Keir Starmer addressed the situation on X, stating, “The scenes in Liverpool are appalling. My thoughts are with all those injured or affected…I’m being kept updated on developments and ask that we give the police the space they need to investigate.”

Merseyside police have confirmed the arrest of a 53-year-old white male from the Liverpool area in connection with the incident. “We would ask people not to speculate on the circumstances surrounding tonight’s incident,” the police stated.

According to PA Media,Harry Rashid,a witness attending the parade with his family,described the chaotic scene. “initially, we just heard the pop, pop, pop of people just being knocked off the bonnet of a car,” he said, adding that bystanders attempted to break the car windows.

Rashid continued, “He stalled for a few seconds…But then he put his foot down again and just plowed through the rest of them…It was horrible. And you could hear the bumps as he was going over the people.”

The new York Times has released footage showing the aftermath of the incident, with numerous police officers managing crowds amidst a large presence of ambulances and other emergency vehicles.
