Time Out magazine’s annual ranking of the world’s 50 best cities is an intersection of many interesting reasons to visit the cities and the feeling they evoke in people. The tenth year interviewed 24,000 residents of 150 world capitals and also took into account the opinions of 100 experts on cities and life in them. According to the ranking, which are the most suitable to visit this year?
The Australian finished in first place Melbournewhich is described as a superbly blended mixture of architecture, monuments, gastronomy, sports, shopping opportunities and natural gems. The second row belongs to the Chinese Shanghai. The most modern and cosmopolitan Chinese megalopolis is one of the largest cities in the world. It combines traditional Chinese culture, Western influences and lots of futuristic architecture. The local cafes and bar scene are famous. Shanghai is often referred to as the city with the largest number of cafes in the world, while the locals are sure that everyone will find their own here.

This year is officially dedicated to art in the country; a number of new cultural monuments are preparing to be made available to the public for the first time. The longest awaited is the opening of the Center Pompidou, which will take place in May.

It boasts a record number of Michelin-starred restaurants and a fascinating fashion scene represented by famous designers and local designers. And it also recently opened the world’s first theme park dedicated to Pokemon.

Tokyo is criss-crossed by an excellent public transport system, boasts many fascinating temples and numerous parks within sight of skyscrapers. They turn pink at the end of March thanks to the blossoming cherry blossoms, and turn yellow in autumn thanks to the two-lobed ginkgo leaves. And the Japanese maple colors them red twice a year – in spring and autumn.
No Czech city made it into the top fifty best. As for other large European cities, the eleventh place was occupied by the Swiss Zurich, the thirteenth by the Danish Copenhagen and the seventeenth by the Polish Krakow. Twentieth place went to Porto in Portugal, Spain’s Madrid finished twenty-second and Valencia twenty-fourth. The twenty-sixth place went to Bath, England, and the fortieth position belongs to Athens, Greece.
