UGA Professor Controversy: Video, Removal & Investigation

ATLANTA, Georgia (Telemundo Atlanta) – A professor at the University of Georgia (UGA) was removed from campus after a video spread on social networks showed a group confronting him for alleged inappropriate behavior with a minor, the educational institution reported in a statement.

The university called the allegations “deeply disturbing” and noted that campus police are involved in reviewing the case.

At the moment, the professor has not been formally charged, so his identity has not been disclosed.

The Athens-based group Street Sweeperz, which describes itself as dedicated to identifying suspected child predators, teamed up with the Atlanta content creator known as Hood Anchor Ye to confront the teacher.

In videos posted online, several men are seen approaching the professor on the UGA campus with printed screenshots that they claim show conversations the professor allegedly had with whom he believed was a minor under 14 years of age. The group claims that explicit messages and videos were also sent.

During the recording, the teacher is heard repeating: “I made a mistake… I got carried away with the conversation.”

The group later announced the accusations in front of what appears to be the teacher’s classroom.

In an email sent Wednesday to students and staff, the university said its police department has contacted the Georgia Bureau of Investigation (GBI) and is working to gather evidence related to the case. The institution also indicated that another instructor will take over the class for the remainder of the semester.

However, both the GBI and the Athens-Clarke County Police Department noted that they are not currently involved in the investigation.

The situation continues to develop and authorities are expected to provide more details in the coming hours.
