At TwitchCon Europe, Twitch unveiled a series of upcoming features designed to improve both the streaming and viewing experience. These include the introduction of vertical livestreams and an open beta test for higher-quality streaming.

The vertical stream format aims to make it easier to watch livestreams in portrait mode on mobile devices. According to the announcement,streamers will eventually have the option to offer streams in a dual format,supporting both vertical and horizontal viewing. Testing of this feature is slated to begin this summer with a limited number of channels, with a broader rollout planned for later in the year.

Enhanced Streaming Quality with 2K

Twitch is also launching an open beta for “2k streaming,” enabling creators to stream at 1440p resolution. This feature will be available to all Twitch partners and affiliates. According to a Twitch support page, “Upgrading to 2k (1440p) streaming offers a noticeable step up from 1080p streaming, with richer detail, improved clarity, and better performance – whether you’re gaming, making art, or just chatting.” The 2K streaming option had previously been in a more limited beta phase.

Rewind Feature for Missed Moments

Another feature being introduced is the ability to rewind streams. This will allow viewers to easily go back and rewatch parts of a livestream they may have missed. Twitch plans to test this feature with a small group of viewers this summer.

In a letter published in february, Twitch CEO dan Clancy previewed the vertical streams and other updates expected to arrive on the platform in 2025.
