Turkey wants to stay out of the war in the Middle East. Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan reiterates this position.
The Iran war has now been going on for fifteen days. Turkey is trying not to be drawn into it, reports Euronews.
Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan emphasized his country’s clear position to the Associated Press news agency. Turkey wants to stay out of the war in the Middle East.
Ankara still faces challenges. Three missiles from Iran were fired from NATO systems over Turkey, Euronews reports.
Provocations despite neutrality
Despite denials from Tehran, the data clearly points to Iran. Ankara is not planning a military response, Fidan said, according to Euronews.
Fidan said Ankara was aware of the provocations. “But our goal is to stay outside of this war,” Euronews quoted the Foreign Minister as saying.
There is currently no serious push for negotiations between the USA and Iran. Fidan estimates that Tehran is open to diplomacy through unofficial channels.
Diplomacy instead of escalation
German Foreign Minister Johann Wadephul called for a diplomatic solution at a meeting with Fidan, reports the “Jüdische Allgemeine”.

A reliable solution can only be achieved through diplomatic channels.
Europe is not an uninvolved third party, Wadephul added, according to the “Jüdische Allgemeine”. Economic effects are already noticeable.
Population rejects war in Middle East
Turkish society unanimously rejects the war against Iran. There are few topics where there is such a broad consensus as here, writes “Zenith”.
The anti-Israel attitude significantly shapes the view of the conflict. Widespread anti-Americanism also plays a role.
After the first missile attack, Ankara emphasized its neutrality and summoned the Iranian ambassador. Fidan warned that such incidents should not be repeated.
