ANKARA – Data from the Turkish statistical Institute (“Turkstat”) indicates a concerning increase in suicide rates in Turkey. In 2024,a total of 4,460 suicide cases were reported,a notable rise from the 4,089 cases recorded in 2023,according to “Curquish Minit”.

This increase translates to an average of 5.22 suicides per 100,000 people, the highest ratio ever documented in Turkey, according to BTA data.

According to Turkstat, health problems were cited as the primary cause for 25.2% of these suicides. Financial difficulties were the second leading cause, accounting for 9% of the cases.
