President Donald trump used his commencement address at the U.S. Military Academy at West Point to promote his administration’s changes to the military. The speech, delivered on Saturday, had the tone of a campaign rally.

“You are the first West Point graduates of the golden age of America,” Trump told the graduating class, sporting his signature red ‘make America Great Again’ hat.

“This is the golden age, and you are going to lead the army to summits of greatness that has never reached before,” he added.

during his nearly hour-long address,President Trump championed an “America First” approach and emphasized the strength of the U.S. military, taking credit for its revitalization.

He assured the graduates that thay were becoming “officers in the greatest and most powerful army the world has ever known.”

“And I know, because I rebuilt that army, and I rebuilt the military, and we rebuilt it like nobody has ever rebuilt it before in my first term,” Trump stated.

The speech blended customary graduation sentiments with elements of his 2024 campaign, including criticisms of previous administrations.

President Trump also took the opportunity to highlight his administration’s accomplishments.

“The military’s job is to dominate any foe and annihilate any threat to America, anywhere, anytime and any place,” he declared.

“A big part of that job is to be respected again, and you are, as of right now, respected more than any army anywhere in the world,” he continued.

Focus on Military Academies and DEI

“We’ve liberated our troops from divisive and demeaning political trainings.”

President Trump accused past administrations of deploying U.S. soldiers “on nation building crusades to nations that wanted nothing to do with us.”

President Trump’s address comes as his administration has been focusing on military academies as part of a broader effort to curb diversity, equity and inclusion programs (DEI) nationwide.

He lauded these efforts during his speech, saying “We’ve liberated our troops from divisive and demeaning political trainings.”

Following President Trump’s executive order to eliminate DEI programs from the military, West Point has disbanded several cultural clubs, including the Asian-Pacific Forum Club, the Japanese Forum Club, and the Latin Cultural Club, NBC News reported.

According to the New York Times, the Pentagon has also instructed military academies, such as West Point, to remove books containing references to racism or sexism from their libraries.
