Trude Vasstrand: Farm Celebrity Speaks Out on Gender Imbalance

by Archynetys Entertainment Desk

This year’s season of “Farmen kjendis” is well under way, where we find both influencers, comedians, athletes and TV profiles.

Several of the participants, on the other hand, react to the composition of the participants on the farm. Several of the women believe that the gender balance quickly became skewed, and that this affected both the atmosphere and the dynamics of the competition.

Participant Trude Vasstrand (61) says that she misses a wider diversity in the participant group and receives support from fellow participants.

– A clear grouping

Henriette Lien (56) tells Nettavisen that many of the men on the farm work in the same industry, and that she and Vasstrand were therefore left outside the community.

– Why are there a lot of men in their 30s who are influencers, Tiktokers and Youtubers here? So Trude and I come here and wonder if we got our pension points here or what the hell happened? It was a grouping that was clear from the start, says Lien to Nettavisen.

Lien reacts to the production’s casting choices.

– It was a group of boys who took up a lot of space. There were a lot more boys than girls who got really weird. I really wondered what the production was really thinking.

Trude Vasstrand also questions the cast, and points out that earlier in the season there were roughly twice as many men as women.

– I have reacted very well to the cast. We were five women and ten men inside the farm. It was a boyish atmosphere from morning to night. Absolutely terrible. They are very handsome and nice boys, but it was like being on a cabin trip with my sons and their friends. All day long.

The women did not come

The 61-year-old also experienced that it was difficult to take part in conversations with the men, and that the women were not allowed to manage the farm in the same way.

– We didn’t make it. Half the men did nothing but fool around. It was absolutely horrible. It became a mini-community where men managed the shop and took care of themselves, she says and continues:

– If I speak up as a woman, I’m either a whining bitch or a man-hater. But when a man puts me in my place, it’s men who put me in my place.

Like Lien, Vasstrand believes that the men quickly found the tone, because they work in the same industry and are the same age.

– There were men in their 30s across the board. The vast majority knew each other because they all work with social media. Henriette and I could not participate in conversations about mutual friends. It was a group of friends.

According to Vasstrand, she brought up the gender imbalance with the production already during the recording.

– There should have been a much wider range of people. Very strange cast and very strange that they took so many men. I reported this to the production. Nothing negative towards the men, but TV 2, the production and Strix should have watched a little more.

Started the same

TV 2’s press manager Jan-Petter Dahl says that the production started with equal gender distribution, but that this changes as participants quit.

– In this year’s season of “Farmen kjendis”, we started with six women and six men, in addition to a male informant from Torpet. We have no control over what happens next in the game, and which genders emerge, he tells Nettavisen and adds:

– This season we have also given the sexes the opportunity to choose each other in duels.

He also points out that Victoria Frostmann Skau (26) quit and that Mari Maurstad (68) retired at the same time challengingly entered the farm, which led to an imbalance.

– When three male challengers from Torpet celebrity came in, it became uneven for a few days. By then Victoria had already quit, and Mari withdrew. However, it did not take long before all three challengers had left the farm again. Right now there are five men and four women on “Farmen kendis”.
