TOPEKA, Kan. (WIBW) – A Topeka man has entered a guilty plea in the second homicide of 2025.
Desmond A. Lindsey, 24, was charged with first degree murder, aggravated assault, and more for the shooting death of Chavis Collins, 29, back on Feb. 8 in the 1700 block of Southeast 23rd Street. Lindsey turned himself in two days later.
On Dec. 22, Lindsey’s attorneys entered a plea that will reduce the first charge of first-degree murder to voluntary manslaughter. In addition, all other charges were dismissed.

Court documents say sentencing is set for March 6th.
