Apple Dominates Top Ten Smartphone Sales for Q1 2025, According too Report

The iPhone 16 series leads the way, with Samsung and Xiaomi also making appearances in the Counterpoint Research rankings.

A new report from Counterpoint Research indicates that Apple dominated the global smartphone market in the first quarter of 2025. The iPhone 16 series captured the top three spots in the ranking of best-selling smartphones.

The base iPhone 16 model secured the number one position, marking the first time in two years that the standard model has led the charts. The iPhone 16 Pro Max followed in second place, with the iPhone 16 Pro taking third.

According to Counterpoint Research, the iPhone 16 performed particularly well in Japan, the Middle East, and Africa. The Pro models faced strong competition in the Chinese market but still maintained high sales figures.

The previous generation iPhone 15 secured fourth place in the rankings. The iPhone 16 Plus landed in tenth position, which may reinforce speculation that Apple could discontinue this model in the future.

The more budget-friendly iPhone 16E, released towards the end of Q1, is expected to make a strong showing in the rankings in the coming months, according to Counterpoint.

Samsung and xiaomi Make their Mark

Samsung’s Galaxy A16 5G was the first non-Apple smartphone to appear on the list, securing fifth place. The entry-level Galaxy A06 followed. The flagship Galaxy S25 Ultra was in seventh place, and the Galaxy A55, a high mid-range model from the previous year, was ninth.

There were comments on the debut of this year’s series that there were not enough innovations outside the top model.

In the previous year, Samsung had two flagship models in the top ten: the base Samsung Galaxy S24 and the Galaxy S24 Ultra. Counterpoint noted that the sales window for the current year’s models was shorter within the quarter, possibly impacting their rankings.

Xiaomi’s Redmi 14C 4G, a budget-friendly option, secured the eighth position.
