Chile’s Unemployment Rate Shows Slight Increase in May-July period

Teh National Statistics Institute (INE) reported a marginal rise in the
unemployment rate, prompting analysis of the labor market’s performance.

The unemployment rate in Chile experienced a slight uptick during the
May-July rolling quarter, according to the latest data released by the
National Statistics Institute (INE). The rate climbed to 8.5%, marking a
0.1 percentage point increase compared to the previous rolling quarter of
April-June.

According to the INE, this figure represents a 0.6 percentage point
increase compared to the same period last year.

the INE detailed that the increase in the unemployment rate is attributed
to a rise in the labor force that was greater then that of employed
individuals. Specifically, there was a 1.8% increase in the labor force,
while employment saw a 1.2% increase.

“The increase in employed individuals was influenced by the health,
education, and public governance sectors,” the INE stated in its
report.

Meanwhile, sectors experiencing a decline in employment included
construction and commerce.

Analysis of Employment Categories

The INE report further breaks down employment by category. Salaried
employees saw an increase of 1.1%, while self-employed individuals
experienced a rise of 1.5%.

Though, the number of unpaid family workers decreased by 11.1%, and
employers saw a decrease of 1.3%.

Regional Unemployment Rates

Examining regional data, the INE highlighted the regions with the highest
unemployment rates. The Antofagasta region recorded a rate of 10.2%,
followed by the Coquimbo region at 9.8%, and the metropolitan region at
9.2%.

Thes figures provide a detailed snapshot of the current employment
landscape in chile, reflecting both growth and challenges across various
sectors and regions.
