The Federal Minister of Health warns of a massive shortage of doctors in the coming years. What’s behind it and what the current situation is.

The most important things at a glance

Federal Health Minister Karl Lauterbach (SPD) has a bleak outlook for health care in the coming years: “We have not trained 50,000 doctors in the last ten years. Therefore, we will be lacking family doctors across the board in the next few years. We will be transformed into a whole “There will be a difficult supply situation,” he said in the ARD “Report from Berlin”. The future shortage “can’t really be imagined yet,” he warned.

One thing is clear: fewer and fewer young people today are choosing to become a family doctor and are instead choosing specialized medical professions. In order to create new incentives for the profession, pay should be improved. Lauterbach is planning a law according to which the upper limits on remuneration (budgeting) will be eliminated and home visits will be better paid. This emerges from the draft of the so-called “Health Care Strengthening Act”.

Better fees than the solution?

The annoying thing in budgeting so far has been that doctors’ fees have been deducted if they have exceeded their budget because they have to see patients more often or prescribe more medication.

Explosions in Iran in possible retaliatory attack by Israel; this is what is known

#Explosions #Iran #retaliatory #attack #Israel

Several explosions shook central Iran this Friday, in what North American officials presented as an Israeli attack in retaliation for the drones and missiles fired by Tehran against Israel last Saturday.

Iran’s Fars news agency reported “three explosions” near the Shekari military base, Isfahan airport and the city of Qahjavarestan, in the center of the country.

The Tasnim press agency, citing “informed sources”, denied for its part that the country had suffered an attack “from abroad”.

The event occurs amid an escalation of tensions between Iran and Israel, which promised to respond to a recent attack by Tehran against its territory, and against the backdrop of the war in Gaza.

American media such as CNN claimed, citing senior officials in their country, that Israel had launched an attack against Iranian territory and that it had notified Washington in advance. The explosions, these sources assured, respond to the Iranian aggression against Israeli territory last weekend.

Neither Israeli nor Iranian leaders immediately reacted to the attack.

Following the reports, Italian Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani, who is chairing a meeting of his G7 counterparts on the island of Capri,

The Uncertainty for Pharmacists: Dispensing Misoprostol in the Wake of Abortion Laws

The complexities surrounding the dispensing of misoprostol, a medication with both medical and controversial associations, has put pharmacists in a difficult position. While misoprostol is FDA-approved for preventing stomach ulcers and has legitimate medical uses, it can also be used for abortions. In Idaho, where abortions are largely illegal following the overturning of Roe v. Wade in 2022, pharmacists face uncertainty about their legal obligations when confronted with prescriptions containing misoprostol.

Matt Murray, a pharmacist in Boise, Idaho, acknowledges that his hesitation to dispense misoprostol is not driven by personal opinions on abortion but rather the fear of potential legal consequences and jail time. This fear stems from Idaho’s “Defense of Life Act,” which imposes criminal charges and up to five years’ imprisonment on individuals who perform or assist in abortions.

The lack of clarity surrounding whether pharmacists can be held liable for dispensing a drug that could potentially be used for an abortion adds to their apprehension. Alison Tanner from the National Women’s Law Center empathizes with pharmacists who find themselves navigating these strict abortion laws while trying to fulfill their professional duties.

This ambiguity has led some pharmacists to refuse prescribing misoprostol altogether,
