This Monday (27), Getúlio Afonso Porto Neiva, former mayor of Teófilo Otoni, former federal deputy and one of the most emblematic names in Minas Gerais politics, died. Lawyer and journalist, Neiva has established himself as one of the most notable voices on the state political scene in recent decades.
Known for his impeccable oratory and the courage to maintain firm positions, even when they contradicted consensus, he built a career of respect and admiration. “He was loved, respected and, like every great public man, also challenged — but never ignored”, describes the note of condolence released by family and allies.
In 2016, a cerebrovascular accident (CVA) took him away from the streets and the podium. Since then, he has remained bedridden, but active in his political influence. In recent days, a new stroke led to his admission to the Santa Rosália Hospital, in Teófilo Otoni (MG), Vale do Mucuri, where he died.
